About

Our Story

The EPMG was initially created in 2019, and rekindled again in 2025 by two Exeter locals, amateur pianist and composer Caroline Wright and freelance musician and teacher Rebecca Willson.

The idea of the group is to enable local pianists to get together and perform in front of a small and friendly audience.

Who can join

Adult pianists of any standard can come along either to play the piano or just to listen. We welcome any repertoire at any stage of readiness.

Group members have previously played a range of classical and contemporary pieces, improvised or have played their own compositions and arrangements.

Where we meet

We are located in central Exeter. Mostly we meet in the Cygnet Theatre, located just above the historic Exeter quay.

Although based in Exeter, we welcome anybody from outside the area; in fact, several people travel into the city on the day of the meetup.

What happens

We simply meet at the venue and people play the piano one after the other. The atmosphere is very informal often with casual talk in between performances.

If you are performing, you are kindly asked to bring £5 in cash to cover the cost of the venue hire. If you are present as a listener, then you can attend entirely for free!

The meetup usually lasts just over an hour. After the meetup, much of the group heads down to the quay to have a chat about all things piano in one of the nearby cafés.
